Writing New Music & Throwback to 'Angel' from Lionheart

Hi Lionheart,

Writing new music with synth programmer Jay Wires at thesynthsanctuary.com and exploring a world of modular synths makes me feel like a kid again with simple joy + curiosity.⁣

Let's throw it back today to this music video of my song Angel, off the Lionheart album.

‘Angel’ is a Gypsy jazz x electronics work influenced by U.K. trip-hop and Berlin techno. Synths vibrate, speckle, and stretch alongside upright bass. The Gypsy jazz guitar arpeggios lie underneath a trancelike 3 against 4 metric pattern. Vocals act as an orchestral instrument as they soar in long phrases, dripping in reverb and delay over the music.

The ‘Moloko velocet’ text in the chorus and gambling den scene in the music video reference Stanley Kubrick’s film, ‘A Clockwork Orange.’ My spirit throws me the dice, challenging me to bet on myself.

In the bathtub scene, I drift off in reverie, dreaming of joining my spirit twin in a mysterious gambling den world. Lost in my dream, I sweep various colors of paint across my eyes, down my face, and ultimately, through my hair, revealing the truth that there are many layers to what you might perceive to be in front of you. The video ends with my spirit twin leading me to transcend upwards and release in dance.
